Format Converter: HEDD to HD24

Anybody using the converters in the HEDD to record to the HD24?

What is being used to convert from AES or SPDIF to ADAT optical?

Thanks,

Woods

It may be overkill, but the Z-Systems Z-8.8a would do the job. Unfortunately you can't use a more basic (read less expensive) spdif-to-optical converter as these do not support ADAT litepipe.

If you can find one, the discontinued Alesis AI-1 is also capable of this function.

Get an Alesis AI-4. 8 channels of aes to lightpipe at 96k. $400.
Do not use an AI-1, they are dirt boxes that will pass 16 bits at 48k.

Jim,

Have you used an AI 4 in this application? Or heard of anyone that has? If so, I am wondering about the coloration of the box or any possible degradation of the box?

I think I mentioned I want to use it to enable me to track to the HD24 with a Cranesong Hedd. Therefore I am wondering if the sound quality would be improved with the AI 4 / Hedd combination as apposed to tracking to the HD24 direct (using the HD24's converters)?

Thanks,
Woods
