opportunity or a bone idle blag?

I got a call yesterday on my ansafone(& an email) from an A&R mook of a UK major.
It went like this...

"Hi,

I work for ****** Records. I'm always on the lookout for new unsigned bands for the label, and since i've seen your website i thought i'd drop you a line to see if there was anything that you'd worked on that you could recommend?

I'm into any genre as long as it sounds fresh, with good vocals, and good songs.

Thanks a lot for your help, "

Has anyone else had any contact like this?

Is this a good opportunity to get to know a major A&R dept and maybe get something out of it, OR,
Should I blow it out as some mook too lazy to get off his arse and check out the scenes outside of Camden Town and just wants others to do the work, almost certainly for nothing.

Actually, I do have a band in at the moment, very promising who are already being shopped to the majors, but I don't want to piss off the manager who brought them here to work with me.

What says you slutz?

crispy,

This does happen, normally it's the younger members of the label's A&R that are keen to get to the new talent first.

I have regular meetings with a couple of guys from Polydor and Gut (and they come to me).

I have some great music to show them but nothing I'd ever think they'd consider signing but thats their game not mine.

I just record the stuff and they wanna hear it.

Follow it up, get a number and pass it on to the band's management if you want to play it safe. Let them handle it.

If it's a scam you should be able to sniff it out.

Cheers,
Rich
