Preamp question

Hey,

Which do you think has better preamps...the ISA 428 or Fireface 800? I currently have the ISA but I'm thinking about getting the 800.

Thanks!

Donny

lol, don't be so mean

sorry donny, i haven't tried both to be able to tell you though preamps are discussed a LOT on this forum...and not in the most intelligent way. Use the search function. I find searching by titles only to be pretty helpful.

Good luck

hi, I ave both units and they both work together so good, I use the ISA 428 with another preamps ( 2 Amek 9098 DMA) feedeng 5 to 8 inputs, then ADAT out to ADAT IN FF800.
the Isa 428 has the impedance match (for diferent color of sound, and has Lundahl Trannies, Hi pass filter, insert point, as the basic part of the preamp section,
The FF800 DON`T, but they are very good, I belive that are better than any Mbox, including the 002 I think, the big thing with the FF800 are the electronics, dedicated to:
great converters,
solid clock &
very intuitive software
great design box.
both units are clocked to a Mytek A/D 192 that, his clock is exelent, cause it is designed for mastering, and then I have another two inputs connected to SPDIF in of the FF800.
and the FF800 recignize that is clocked to both BNC & SPDIF)
very stable, I feed the Mytek A/D from a Manley Dual Mic Pre then Spdif to In spdif FF800.
( This is the setup I use for remote recordings with my laptop)
mid down & mastering is another set up, that the FF800 has in their sotorage memory presets
All this things is because each preamp sound differentand dependspf the taste that you are looking for with the resources that you have at this time,
In my own opinion BOTH are great in their own way and they are a good match
I run cubase SX3 and have a Laptop Sonica 1784 (just tracking) & Descktop P4 3.2 Ghz,4 Gb. Ram XP pro SP2
