Methods of micing LEAD GUITAR solos (style of rock)

Hey buds,

I'm currently tracking guitar leads and I find the best sounds I'm getting are from distant micing so that it's not blending too much with the original rythm guitars.

I am only using one mic at the moment but today I'd like to try a few more to work it for a huge in your face tone.

Anyone else have some ideas to through at the board?

Post em here

Thanks!

Jason

I'm a big fan of more room sound in the lead guitar as well. I find it makes the solo more personable; The listener feels more like they're in the room with the player, which is good, because solos are supposed to be personable.

I'll generally use a combination of a close mic and a room mic, tho. Perhaps use a different mic or amp or guitar to better seperate the tone of the lead vs. the rhythm guitars?
