Latch Lake Mic Stand appearing @NAMM

Everyone that missed the AES show in New York has another chance to see the newest mic stand design in the world, The Latch Lake micKing.

This stand features a 29 pound ductile iron base which is part of the patent, as well as the strongest boom clutch in the world, also part of the patent.

We signed up late for the show so we probably won't be in any of the show guidebooks. Since lots of people were pissed that they missed us at AES, here's where to find us:

NAMM SHOW, Hall E, Booth 1829.

Of course we will also be showing our Latch Lake guitar slides.

Come and see the first significant new mic stand design in over 50 years. Gearslutz especially welcome.

Thank you,

Jeff Roberts

I've heard some interesting stuff about your stand, but have yet to see it. Where can I buy it and how much is it?

Wurly, do you have any pictures of your stands being used this way on drums?
Maybe not a whole drumkit's worth on one stand but certainly one for snare + hat or rack tom 1 + rack tom 2.

Multiple booms on one stand will come in handy for double miking any instrument and could be neater for an acoutic guitar player that sings at the same time. I think it's a useful option.

It's about time someone actually put some thought into designing a better mic stand.
Best of luck at the show Wurly.

FWIW... I've seen/used the stand and think it's totally awesome!!! ...and as "booth babes" go... I've seen one of the daughters Jeff sez both will be in attendance]... and thought the daughter may have been almost as awesome as the stand... though access to diddling the daughter was far less iminient to diddling the Latchlake stand... [I have one of the stands, the wife doesn't mind that... somehow I don't think the wife would like it if I had one of the daughters... for that matter, I doubt the daughter would be all that wild about the idea either... but the stands are totally ****ing awesome none the less]

"Daughter-diddling". Methinks Wurly might be contemplating how well a $800 mic stand would function as a rectal probe if Fletcher shows up at his booth (especially if the daughters are around).
Definitely the funniest review of a mic stand I have ever heard.

Throw me into the briar patch.....

Hanging mics on drumkits was one of the principle design goals of the Latch Lake micKing™, along with it's little brother, the XtraBoom™. Singing Guitarists? No problemo. (My first serious FOH work was for Leo Kottke.) For vocal mic shootouts I use one stand for four or so LDC mics.

I use two L.L. micKings™ and six or eight XtraBooms™ to mic a typical drumkit, along with one (ahem) normal mic stand.

One micKing™ goes on the drummer's left, for left overhead, snare over and under, HH, and any toms that are a convenient reach.

The other micKing™ stand goes on the drummer's right, for right overhead, floor tom, and any other nearby toms.

The "regular" stand goes in front for kick and any toms that you didn't get from the sides. This stand doesn't necessarily need a boom.

So there you go, lots of mics on just 3 stands. Six or eight boom stand tripods are no longer cluttering up the floor around the kit fighting for space, and you don't have all of those boom arms sticking out taking up space. Simple, clean, strong, and elegant.

As for the price, I never said $800. The street price looks like it will end up at $600. Compare the size and price of Starbird, and the quality and price of Atlas, and I think you'll agree that our pricing is more than fair.

As for Fletcher's comments above, well, I hadn't seen them yet when Fletcher dropped by the booth, plus he had a badge identifying him as Klaus Heyne and was wearing sunglasses. I've never met Klaus, and running on vapor as I was then, I thought I was talking to Klaus.

Fletcher ran with it for a couple minutes, then he had mercy on me.

"You don't know who I am do you?"

pause

pause

pause

FLETCHER!!!

I can only assume that Fletcher as a father is now so consumed by guilt over his rowdy post concerning my daughters that he will now do anything to help me in the future and we are now friends for life.

Or not.

In any case, I think Fletcher will go on being Fletcher no matter what I say.

We'll get some pictures showing our mic stands on drum kits on the website ASAP.

Thanks for your interest and comments.

Jesus, wurly, you couldn't recognize Fletcher? How could you miss him? He looks like a big toe with a smiley face painted on.

Fletch on the right

That said, I kind of look like the Unibomber, so what am I talkin' about?

Vertical rise and fall is managed by air-damped compression valves making the boom gentle for precious microphones.

[/Snip]

Ok...isn't this getting a little ridicilous? I mean...it's a mic stand for god sakes...

When you're hanging a mic that could easily be traded for a NEW car, I think such features can be critical.

Heck, Ive worked with such mics many times on crappy stands and At such a young age as I am, you would never know it by all the grey hairs I grew!

Close, the badge was Klaus Heinz [designer of ADAM monitors].... I would never masquerade as Klaus Heyne... as for sunglasses... I always wear sunglasses [it's part of being a vampire... I function much better in the dark]... that should have been the giveaway.

The stands do rock... we have a short little proto-type thing in our joint which we use for kik drum. I've had and seen a few thousand kik drum mic stands over the years... this is the first one I have ever had that A) stays exactly where I put it; B) never runs the risk of falling over.

I can honestly say I can't wait until the production models are ready for shipment... we're buying two for our room, and have several friends that are lined up for them as soon as they are deliverable.

Really, the most revolutionary product to come out in the mic stand world in decades... I can't praise these things highly enough.

With friends like Fletcher has.......

Wow, talk about your discrete and modest guys.

I got a phone call yesterday that made me go crazy nuts with excitement. It was Fletcher calling to see when I could ship the first order of production mic stands (2 weeks).

It seems that one of his "friends" wanted to buy some big mic stands for an upcoming tour. I guess they were looking for Starbirds or something. Fletcher convinced them that they should wait for Latch Lake stands since actual production units will be ready in a few weeks.

And what tour was Fletcher's friend working to equip?

THE FLIPPING ROLLING STONES!!!!!!!!!!

I will never forget where my first shipment of mic stands is going, or the man that sold them.

My four year plus journey to develop and manufacture an entirely new stand design has been insanely difficult, expensive and tragic, with the death of my co-inventor/foreman/friend//father figure, Dale Allen.

Without the encouragment and input from Fletcher I may not have made it this far.

Many thanks to Fletcher for helping me feel like a worthwhile part of the pro audio world.

From the heart,

Jeff Roberts

Good on ya, Jeff! I'm sorry to hear about your foreman, though... that must have been rough. Hope you do well with the stands, and I look forward to checking one of them babies out.
