cheapest good standalone a/d converter

Looking for a cheap solution that will bypass my focusrite saffire converters. I have only seen the apogee mini me so far but thing has a mic pre and compressor as well which i dont really need.
Looking for something that is compact that does 2 channel conversion. the cheaper the better but obvyesly it should be good.

nice one

API A2D. Not exactly cheap but better than the Saffire, that's for sure.

Superb converter. I've heard it with my own ears, and it's definately a cut above what's in most PC audio interfaces these days.

I like the mini me. It's definitely got a good sound. It's a little expensive. I use a RME ADI-2 and am very pleased with the sound. It's AD/DA.

i dunno what u guys got going on maybe some other issue. I wont get involved. But if anyone has had any experience with the a2d converters i would love to know if they are on par with the mini me or better or worse. Il either be getting the ba 312 and a mini me (which gives me only one pre and a converter) or the apia2d( which is 2 pres and a converter).
The A2d seems a bit more appealing but id like to know what the converters are like, if neone has had ne frsthand experience with them id love to know about them
Peace to all

If you are not recording at high sample rates, you can get the original Rosetta on eBay for about $500.

wow, bendecido you've been dishing out a lot of money since you started out here on gearslutz. Sounds like things are on their way! I wish you the best of luck

As you probably know from many of my posts on your threads, I was using a saffire too. When I switched to the fireface 800, the highs became noticibly clearer. The lows didn't change too dramatically for me. But there is something that I did like about the saffire in that it had a touch more warmth. It gave it a nice colour IMHO.

I may be mistaken but I remember that you do rap/hip hop. I'm not sure if getting a better converter will actually be much improvement for your purposes. But I mean if you've got the money, that's awesome =]

Don't forget to save some to pay your future music lawyer, e

oh, one other thing. The saffire's only way of receiving and sending digital is S/PDIF. If you intend to keep using the saffire as an interface, then be sure you that the standalone AD DA has that.

I personally really enjoy the Lucid AD9624 and DA9624 units.

Sound is very "real" and you can adjust gain with a pot on the face...and the meters can be seen from a mile away. Great units in my opinion.

Some people on this board like the converter in the Kurzweil Rumour/Mangler units which you should be able to find for around $400, plus have the rack effects unit as a bonus. I'd do a search on it to see if it will cut it for you.

Another one for the Lucid. In its price range (just under $800) I think still unrivaled.
