Just got this terrific book. Includes detailed chapters on the following studios; Capitol United Western Recorders RCA B Stax Sun Cosimos Factory Chess Motown Sigma Atlantic Columbia Van Gelder Criteria An essential read for the true gearslut IMHO. Anyone else who's checked it out yet? Chris |

Thanks atticus. Any favorite specifics that you learned from the book? Aloha, I picked up a copy from a local branch of the bookstore chain called "Borders". I assume Amazon or Barnes & Noble would carry it online too. BTW, the authors are Jim Cogan and William Clark. Chris |

| not technical
It's not a technical book. There's really very little on techniques, gear, etc. It's more of a historical who when where type of deal. Still a lot of fun to read and worth having. Great pics. Mike |

| That's about it too....
The one thing that I thought was really funny was all of the shots of people smoking in the control room, studio, near the mics, etc. Especially Putnam. The key to the great sounds of those records was OBVIOUSLY the nicotine deposited on everything. So I say, quit obsessing about the best preamps and old mics, and just grab a carton of Marlboros for that great vintage sound! Mike |

Marlboros are the beringer of cigarettes. If you want real tone go with Dunhill or Djaurms....
