Fav. Mixing engineer (who do you like)

Good day folks,

I've been really diggin Andy Wallace lately. He's such a genius when it comes to the mix.

His latest works I've been studying - Thirteenth Step (A Perfect Circle)What a masterpiece!!!

And All of his likin parks - heavy, heavy, heavy guitars!

anyhow, are there some mix eng. that you particularly enjoy that you would like to share? It's nice to check out different styles.

Jason

I've always admired Toby Wright's work, especially with AIC!

IMHO

Bob Clearmountain - his work on the first two Robbie Robertson albums was beautiful...space and restraint, and at all times respecting the music.

Billy Bush...the guy who does Garbage. Must be challenging working with THAT many producers at once.

Tchad Blake - always an interesting slant on things

Nick Launay - intricate/complex, but always sounds simple.

Cheers,
Tim

Bob Clearmountain's mixes of the 1st 2 Robbie Robertson records were great.
Elliott Scheiner's mix of the Richard Page record is just remarkable.

Man, I freaking hated the sound of The Thirteenth Step the whole way through. If you want to hear that album done/mixed right, just listen to El Cielo, man.

I like Tony Visconti, Michael Brauer, Nigel Godrich a ton, and honestly yeah, Michael Wagener is damn hard to beat for that style!

Andy Wallace for sure, Tchad Blake is always a favorite. No one's 100% but those two guys don't seem to miss too often. Flood and Allan Moulder also top my list.

Tchad Blake (Esp "Colossal Head"-Los Lobos)
AW (when he doesn't rely on that "Eagles" snare sample. I really like "Comfortable Liar" from Chevelle)
TLA (esp Tracey Bonham, Weezer)
Brendan O'Brien (esp "Hollywood Town Hall"--Jayhawk

I thought Tchad missed big time on the 2 Bonnie Raitt records he did. UGH.
But I thought he was the right guy for Peter Gabriel's last record.

A few of my fav prog mixers

Eddie Offord
John Burns (Lamb Lies Down...)
Hugh Padgham
Brendan O'Brien

of course, they were also the producers, but I am speaking about the quality of those mixes...

Oh wait, I gotta add:

John Kelly - I think he did most the later Kate Bush stuff and I believe he is her "hubby." I think the stuff was done at their home studio. I dont think he started as an engineer by trade. Pretty amazing work.

John Leckie - I didn't pick this username by accident you know!!!

And the very able Carl Cook - while I'm being honest about his ability, I should point out that this is also a blatant attempt to curry favour (in case you're reading this, Carl!).

1)Bob Clearmountain- Basically without Bob C. the job wouldn't even exist.

2)Andy Wallace-Right now on top of his game in rock.

3)Dexter Simmons-for pop and hiphop/rnb. Mixes the best vocals to me and make the songs pop out of your speakers.

4)Mick G-for mixing ballads and making things sound"hifi". Also uses the best soundcape when it comes to effects.

5)TomLord Alge- on the list the one guy that can mix all styles of music and make it exciting. Still mixes the best for radio.

6)Brendan Obrien-propbably the best balance between producer/mixer.

At times Mike Shipley,JJP and Alan Moulder.

What has Bob Rock mixed? I was under the impression he engineered and produced but that Randy Staub did his mixing. I could be wrong.
