OK, So What About the 'Other' Swedish Guys...

The writers doing more of the urban thing...
Only guys I know of are the ones that did Beyonces "irreplaceable" and Rihannas "Unfaithful" (whats with the one word titles?).. Stargate I think.

The more I listen to the compositions and productions of the Swedes the more I respect them. Only American conterpart that can touch their stuff is some earlier Darkchild, maybe Dre's stuff (but its in a different category).

They can blend urban and pop SO well. Bringing in different monies from all demographics..

Yeah man, Swedes are really rockin'.
Not only they write huge amount of hit material for artists around the globe, they also have excellent production.
It has happened so many times that i would like a certain song, only to find out it was swedish.
A friend of mine works for big audio company so he gets to visit lots of studios around the world, and he says there is no place on earth where they have as much outboard gear as they have in Sweden.
Their English is excellent and they have talent, so big thumbs up for Swedes

Martin Terefe is a great producer... Very quirky, and likes dirty beats... Uses Soundscape and a Trident B series (?) desk

He's had mega-success with country-tinged and acoustic artists recently:

James Morrison

Ron Sexmtih

K T Tunstall

***

But He's not really Swedish --- He lives in London

Uhmmm, Stargate are Norwegians....

Not to dismiss Sweden......Sweeden has been the Scandinavian capital of pop music for decades. ABBA, Max Martin.....the list goes on.

Yes, we Swedes do rule.

However, the reasons we rule have not been mentioned in this thread. ABBA? Max Martin? Sheesh...

The reasons are instead:

The Concretes
The Bear Quartet
Refused
Peter Bjorn And John
Dark Funeral
Broder Daniel
Hans Appelqvist
Action Biker
Dismember

(The thumbs-up symbol indicate that you immediately should download some songs of the indicated artist, preferably using an illegal file-sharing service. Hey, illegal file sharing is big in Sweden, we even have a political party for it to be legalized!)

To exchange some international love, I think Melbourne has alot of interesting things going on now. Architecture In Helsinki rules!

Where do you get your sweet pop sensibilities from?

The Lucksmiths are amazing as well.

Why is that sweeds these days are only song pimps
None of them can perform it seems.

I think there should be a law against calling
performers who do not compose 'artists'

Interesting. What Swedes of the past that performed their own music and supposedly ruled are you thinking about? Any Swedish artist who gained recognition outside Sweden in the past that I can think about wrote mundane, bullshit music that had been best kept to themselves.

Think about it. ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base: they were all horrible and lowered our common cultural standards as much as any of the "song pimps" of today. The Cardigans are a possible exception.

While I think a real law prohibiting this would be silly, I agree with the sentiment.

From the weather. If we lived in Sydney with it's beautiful beaches a few minutes from the CBD we would get nothing done. Winter here is so sucky all you can do is stay inside and write, wearing a beanie.

I guess your right. I can't think of one band from there that was good
with the exception of a few death/black metal bands

I hate the last two, but... ABBA? That's pretty much the height of pop IMO. Any band taken seriously enough to have a big-hit movie made about it is probably doing something right... e.g. blazing a trail across a whole freakin' decade, in this case.

The Sounds, The Hives... All the other "The..." bands
+ an insane amount of metal bands.

Some also dig swedish rap very much... I don't really know anything about it though. But my girlfriend has introduced me to some weird danish rap with snailzillas and other strange themes

But I actually think the best swedish artists (performers) are singing in their native tounge. Like Thåström, really one of a kind, it's just too bad all you other guys won't be able to hear (or see) that.
