Anyone have this particular mixing desk? Hey All, I am in dire need of a new desk (furniture, mind you....not a piece of gear) and have been strongly considering the Producer's Station made by Studio RTA here's the link... http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/pro..._sku=102460813 It was recommended to me by my guy at Guitarget who has it (I know he is telling the truth, I've seen it in his house) he has been really pleased with, can fit a ton of gear on/in it, will sell to me for a very fair price... yadda yadda. I've read the reviews on the GC site and he didn't experience any of the problems with the rack holes being out of line. I suppose you just have to careful putting it together... Anyway, I checked out Studio RTA's site and found the dimensions and the desk seems to be huge, well atleast compared to my current workspace. My desk is dwarfed by this prod. station and was wondering, how high do you guys have all your gear? My desk is 28.5 inches tall, which is okay by me... whereas the new one I'm looking at is 41"H! Do any of you have this desk, or have your workspace at a comparable height? That just seems WAY too high...I guess I'm stuck in my ways...it just seems like it's pretty tall...almost like I'd have to stand up to play the keys...Can anyone shed some light on this subject? -Barrett

hey, I dont have this desk, but a buddy of mine does have it... he doesn't have his keyboard on it, but yes, thinking about it, it does seem oddly high for a keyboard, i mean, look at where the keyboard and mouse tray is. As far as the racking problem, I have the smaller version of that and have had that problem with the racks not lining up... very possible its user error when i put it together.

I have this desk. The cherrywood one. I love it the only bummer is the holes don't line up on the 6 space rack on the top right. Now I bought mine a year ago so they could have fixed this flaw. I bought two 4 space rack rails and replaced them. If you put new 6 space rails you will have to cut a quater inch on each end. no biggie. I think it's a styling piece that is rock solid. the cherrywood is nicer then the birch.

So Nu-tra, Do you feel that the desk is too high? Do you have a midi controller on it? If so, is it a pain to play sitting down? It just seems so damned high...for those that don't have the desk, grab a tape measure and see how high 41 inches is from the ground...you'll see what I mean! -B

i believe the 42" height is referring to the top shelf and not the main desk surface. a friend of mine has one with the tascam 2400 controller on it. neither of us has any problems with the height. as to the hile alognment stuff...yes you do have to be careful when assembling it to avoid this. g

Yeah, gramps...that would make more sense. going back to the studio rta site it makes more sense looking at the dimensions and then looking at the pic. I guess I'll just really take it slow when putting the rack portion together so it'll line up! thanks for the advice!

awesome set up! Yeah, I know you can fit a TON of gear in/on the desk...it's the main reason I'm looking at it (has a nice price too). Did you have any problems with the rack holes not lining up (as some stated in the reviews on Guitar Center)? On another note, how do you like the JBL's? Those are the eight inchers, right? I bought the smaller ones, and love them...but part of me wishes I had gotten the larger ones. The clarity is great, and not misleading...I also really like the EQ setting that the RMC provided for my space. Also, I noticed you have the Mackie Control...what software do you use it mainly with? I've been thinking of getting one to help out with my mix sessions in Pro Tools. I think it'd really help out, and have read a few reviews but haven't actually talked to anyone that owns it. Is there anything that you wish they had done differently (major problems that may want to consider another DAW control)? Do you regret your purchase? Are you happy with it? Thanks for taking the time to post your pics! It's cool to see other studios out there...

| I didn't have any problems with the rack rails lining up. As you can see, I did away with the sliding shelf (on the left side below the left video monitor) and added additional rails there. Under the outer "wings" of the monitor shelf, I had nice-racks.com build 2 custom height racks which fit perfectly. Turned out to be 5 spaces in height. Over to the left you can see another nice-racks.com slanted rack. I'm in the process of moving everything off the desk and into that rack. I want to remove the monitor shelf from the desk. My vid monitors block my view into Room A and vocal booth. I'll be welding up some custom audio monitor stands to sit behind the desk. So, I've kind of customized it for my use. Yes, the 4328P's are working out good for me. I moved up (?) from Mackie 624's. In addition, I have a Tannoy 12" sub behind the desk to check bass. I use the MCU with SONAR PE6. One of the most useful pieces of gear I've purchased for my little studio. Especially doing the mix/edit phase. My right arm and shoulder thanked me for it!

I just got my producer station, i really like it. I have absolutely no use for the top shelf's sliding tray, and I really wish i had put rack rails in it. The left rack has had a couple problems fitting pre's next to eachother, mainly because the rack ears on the 7602 are huge. other than that, i adore the desk. The box is huge and insanely heavy, but once it's together, you know it.s there for good.

Yeah, seems like its going to last me a long time. It has plenty of space for gear as you can see in pdlstl's pictures... just curious, what color did you get?

Cool...did you have any problems with the rack holes lining up? Also, the problem the 7602's was because of the mounting ears on the rack unit, not the desk itself, right? Is it a major problem? I am considering getting a 7602 myself...how do you like it? -b

nope, no problems with the holes lining up. it's a really easy build, actually. as for the 7602, i love it. i think it's worth a lot more than it costs. I particularly like it on my snare, among other things.
