Weird live room shape....acoustics Q

Hi guys, just thinking aloud here. I won't have this room until March. My question is about the corners and bass trapping. As you can see in the pics, there are corners within corners. Ya think I'm gonna have to trap the whole thing, or just the corners that reflect back to the main room?

Heres a rough sketch:

That's a big enough room that bass trapping won't be needed.

Make sure you don't set up too close to a wall and watch out for focused echos (flutters and slap-back).

I would respectfully disagree. Those 'corners' will act like little rooms in and of themselves. You'll get all kinds of buildup and boost from the 18' dimensions and it will be coming back at you equally from all 4 corners of the room.

Also, the 24' width is narrow enough to still produce some modal issues that should be addressed.

I will agree that the room volume is large enough that it's better to treat it as a large space rather than the typical small space in terms of a treatment plan in general.

Anyhow, for sure we're getting an acoustician in here to get it right. But that won't be for a month....so I'm just wondering what the obvious is gonna be.

Fer sure a couple of those coves are screaming "ISO BOOTHS"..... we'll see how it shapes up. The other two coves scream "POOL TABLE" & "FULLY STOCKED BAR" .... not joking

A room like that doesn't need bass trapping for the same reason as small rooms do, but you still need plenty of broadband absorption. In this case it's more about bringing down the overall reverb time than curing narrow peaks and nulls and modal ringing at only certain frequencies. You also want the absorption to be as "thick" as possible so it's effective to low frequencies. Fluffy fiberglass 18 inches thick will do a great job.

Or buy 100 commercial bass traps.

I'd get the pool table and bar in before doing too much about the acoustics. Though you may want to think about how you set up those corners and how that will effect the acoustics.

A bit of art deco styling can do a lot to break up standing waves and focusing.

The neat thing about the room is that it's an old bank - about 100 years old. The architecture and finishing is quite remarkable. I'll post some pics once I start digging in.
