Thread Starter | Switching monitors - help with top end
Hi all - I've got a pair of Mackie HR824s, and I'm tired of their top end. Budget-wise they seemed great, but the fake-ness and brittleness of their top end is a hard work-around and isn't translating for me. I find I'm not getting anything near the whole picture, or rather an accurate picture, above 12k. Around $1k or less, any suggestions for replacements? I've been looking at the Adam A7's, but I'm sure there are folks here who can throw out some ideas I've never heard of. If it helps - I mostly do experimental rock and pop, singer-songwriter stuff and some country. Thanks so much! |

I like Emes, they got a lovely sweet top end the Dynaudio are great allround monitors also take a look at PMCs the small passive ones don't cost an arm and a leg. (in that price range) |

Excellent image, very acurate highs. They apparently are not as loud as the mackies. This is not a factor for me. You're also going to be hard pressed to find a better monitor at only 1K a pair.

We had Mackies in our B room, and have recently been trying out new monitors. The BM5A's didn't have near enough low end for us... perhaps the 6's would have been better, but... ... we tried these SLS models and I've fallen in love. They have a very narrow sweet spot compared to the Mackies (especially vertically), but I can't tell you how much better my mixes are translating. The proverbial "veil lifted".... I can now hear what I'm doing. I'd never heard of them before, and apparently they're not too pricey. Check em out. And as others have said, where the Mackies are really cheating you are in the mids. |
