design (planning) new 55 m2 studio. help with design.

have a new studio and soon we are going to do the planning and building. the studio is about 55 m2.

this is the studio without walls:

this is how we were thinking to build it:

you have to walk trough the small room(2 doors) to get to the bigger liveroom where the drums are. the room to the upper right is going to be a small kitchen.

the controlroom are 22 m2 and the drumroom 17 m2.
how does that look?
do you think the listening in the controlroom will be ok? Will ofcourse put in absorbers ers etc.

Thanks for reading this, help apriciate.

Hi man.
Go over to John L Sayers forum;
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php

I think it will be more use.
Oh and to get you started, hes a rough sketch of an alt. layout.

The problem as you drew it is there are corners behind the mix position and behind the drummer. Those focus the sound, which is not great. Ozzy's proposed layout is a good solution, though I'm not keen on the live room being so long and narrow. But it's not too bad. Also, if you do make both rooms side by side like that, be careful to plan the window placement so it doesn't end up at a first reflection point for the loudspeaker on that side.

I really think it would be better not to have those angles at the back of the cr room, with or without bass traps. Draw a line from the speaker and you.ll see that in your design the first reflection will come straight back at you head. Not good. On mine its pushed around the room, eventually to the back wall which you can treat. Im no expert tho so please take the above with a pinch of salt! Oz

ok, i understand. thanks a lot!
the thing is that the budget are very limited and i dont want to loose space. therefore i cant affor building walls into the walls that are already there. i hope you understand my bad english.

i like your suggestion, but i would like the liveroom to be a little bit bigger (wider)

the upper room to the left is reserved for kitchen.

Thanks again, and if you have more suggestions please post!

My suggestion is go to the sayers forum and have a good read! :) If isolation is not an issue, there are loads of options, but tbh they've been covered so much on the sayers forum, your better off reading it yourself and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each one, rather than waiting for someone to explain them all. Good luck with the studio. Oz
