Your favourite mixing engineer

I have always admired some of the great names in business and i am aware of what a big difference they can make in the mix.
There is a lot of engineers that do excellent job, still Bob Clearmountain and Mick Guzauski just have that something magical that really impresses me.
It's a thin line between very good and great mix, but this guys seem to cross it on a regular basis.
Bob's mixes are big and warm, when it comes to drums i think he is the man (remember Simple Minds-"Don't you?")
Guitars are hard and punchy, yet he never loses focus from the vocals.
I do mainly pop music, in all shapes and sizes, so vocal sound is absolute priority.
I think Bob has that pop music ear combined with rock edge, which makes his sound so powerfull.
Mick is one of the best pop music mix engineers ever and has very different sound.
His mixes just sound good on anything, anywhere.
Clear, present and straight to the point.
Again one of the best vocal engineers around.
I know there are many more great names so here it is :
Who are your favourite mixing engineers and why?

Andy Wallace - his mixes sound great on everything, you can hear the band, not the mixer(RATM sounds like RATM,Sepultura sounds like Sepultura).
I liked the lot of albums he did before I got into recording and knew who he is.

Terry Date -I like the sound of the albums he did, loud but nice and rich

Brendan O'Brien - he mixed Soundgarden Superunknown and some other great sounding records

great description of Bob's and Mick's work - I like em both too - great guys.

I also like Michael Brauer he's the guy for the ambient room stuff. I like the natural drums he gets. Also he gets wonderful result with girls (not what you guys think - did ya hear Aimee Mann? great stuff). And the stuff he did recently with Ben Folds: WOW. It's the best Rock mix I heard in a long time. Really upfront in a natural way - not that overcompressed edgy shit they sell as upfront nowadays

Andy Wallace - what's not to love with that guy - I'm sure there are more qualified guys out there to speak for him.

Mark "Spike" Stent, for his rules-breaking creativity and total diversity (as if I need a reason other than Massive Attack's Mezzanine).

Bob Clearmountain, for everything having it's place, for the vocal being king, for serving the song first.

Siggi Bemm for his wonderful work at his Woodhouse Studios in Germany. He's playing that Raindirk like a church organ! Metal and goth never sounded warmer and more beautiful than his mixes!!!

Unequivocally, Mike Shipley.

I enjoy certain specific things that the other guys do, but Mike is just great with presenting the song as a mix. I don't find myself listening for specific elements of his mixes. No single instrument appears to be featured in his work.

He is definitley a 'song guy'.

I can point out every specific detail that I love about all the other great mixers, but my money is on Mike.

Andy wallace is the man. I really do look up to all the work he does, weather it be mellow like jeff buckley's grace, or full on like thrice's artist in the ambulance, the list goes on. Also terry date purely for the white pony drum sound! oz

Dave "Harddrive" Pensado and Bruce Swedien - I have learned so many things from Dave's Guest Moderation, and incorporated many of them in my own mixes.
Bruce influence on pop music is obvious... when listening to some of his 20 years old mixes I have to remind myself that this was pre-DAW...

Tom Lord Alge - for his amazing midrange and the ability to make you feel the music even if it isn't that good

Andy Wallace - for doing so much without really doing anything

I love them and hate them at the same time.

Whoever mixed "Car wheels on a Gravel Road", "Essence", and "World Without Tears" by Lucinda Williams. I think each were done by different people, but all of them rock! (Mark Howard? Bo Ramsey?)

Whoever mixed Portishead also kicks ass.

Cheers

rob mcgregor out of gainesville.. not because he does revolutionary/amazing work, but because he only charges $20/hour so all my favorite bands have ended up at his place at least once in their lives.. and the recordings aint too shabby!

Hope I got them all right.

Waiting for a Daniel Lanois/Lucinda Williams collaboration

Bob Clearmountain of course. Ken Andrews is sweet, especially with Pet Yorn. I do appreciate what Chris Lord-Alge does.
