Thread Starter | SM57 and a SM7 to record electric guitar??
Do you think pairing these two mics on a (lets say Fender tube amp) sounds like a good idea? Anybody tried this?? |

Couldn't hurt. I usually try to combine two different types of mics (i.e., dynamic & condensor or dynamic & ribbon), but combining the two dynamic mics could still be useful. Have you tried it? How does it sound? I have used both individually on cabs and they both do a nice job. Maybe the SM7 close for more bass and the sm57 a foot back for more high end?

| Lives for gear | Personally I never had luck with the 57 on Fender Amps. A favorite combination though is the SM7 along with a MD 421. Pretty often, I end up using just the 421 but sometimes the combo is really good, especially with a Little Labs IBP in there too.

I personally, think it would be redundant to pair these mics. Though if it works then go for it. In most cases I'd be perfectly fine with just one SM57. BTW, the Royer 121 is great for Fender amps. All by itself. |

Isn't the SM7 kind of like the the 421? (in terms of freq. curve) Wouldn't the 57 pick up the high mids and the SM7 work on the lower freqs? I really want the SM7 instead of the 421 because it would be more usefull for vocals, snare, etc.... |

I know some guys who get really nice guitar tones who do this... Though I turned them onto the AEA R84 and they gave it up
