A/D Converters

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my converters.

Any suggestions?

I've been looking at the Myteks and the Apogee PSX-100 which doesn't seem to be available any longer.

Thanks

How many channels do you need and what price range do you need to fit them in? What system are you planning on using them with? Thanks!

I only need 2 channels for now. I was planning on spending no more than $2000. I'm planning on using them with an Echo Layla 24. I believe it has SPDIF and Lightpipe.

Thanks

If you are working at 48k or below - the kurzweil Rumour or Mangler has great converters - $500 for AD/DA + great FX

By the end of the month (or so I've heard) Benchmark will be coming out with the ADC-1. This unit has 2 ch AD and 2 very clean pre's ... and will be a tad less than your budget allows for

Benchmark's AD/DA ranks with any other top convertor on the market ... at any price It would be worth your time to check it out.

Stereo Mytek's are just now starting to become available after a long wait. They sound excellent, very true to the source. Benchmark is coming out with their preamp included unit sometime in the near future and should also be excellent. The Crane Song HEDD 192 is a smoking unit, if you need ADC, DAC, and DSP processing (tape, tube). From there the skies the limit....Weiss, Prism, dCs, etc.

Someone recommended the Universal Audio AD/DA.

They said it was "more analog sounding".

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I'm interested in hearing opinions about the UA2192 too but it seems there's no one using it! Not yet anyway.....

I just got an e-mail from Apogee.

They're coming out with new products in a few days.

Not sure. I'm guessing 192k converters, not audio interfaces.

Didn't Fletcher mention something about a new improved version of the AD/DA 16 boxes not too long ago? That would be

Fletcher said something about that a while back.

I emailed Apogee and they said (Unofficially and off the record of course) that the AD and DA 16 are both supposed to surpass the Rosetta 800 converters.
Considering the step up the Rosetta 800 took over their older designs it makes me think Apogee`s catching up to some of the big fellows out there.
It seems like they come out with something almost yearly that improves on what they did before but is still thousands less than their competitors.

Than again they still might not be as good as some of their competitors but at least they keep trying.

Who knows.
Maybe in a year or so everybody will be selling their $10,000 dollar Prisms and buying Apogees.
