Show me your blank panels!

I have just built myself some new racks. I didn't think the black boring blank panels looked to nice in them, so I made some matching ones myself!

So come on...show me your not so ordinary blank panels!

Wow, they look ACE. The thing is, the standard powder coated metal blanking plates are so pricecy that I bet they don't even cost that much more! I'm looking into this for my racks right now...

Cheers,

That's nice... I like the way the natural wood breaks up the sea of black faceplates. When I glance at my modest rack, it's like a sea of knobs and little white labels... it takes a half second to get my bearings.

Seriously. This should be a product on the market if it isn't already. It 'wood' sell like hot cakes.

Well, thank you for all your comments. I thought there were more people doing stuff like this for themselves?

I agree that this should be a product for the market, but it isn't a perfect product...at least not yet.

They are not solid oak (the racks are). Instead it is veneered mdf. The biggest problem is that the rack ears are 3,5 mm (1/8 inch) thick and made of wood, which makes them a bit fragile. They are perfectly fine for me here at home and I don't think I will have any problem moving these panels hundreds of times, but I believe a real product should have some sort of metal or something stabilizing the rack ears. There's a reason we don't have any equipment with wooden front panels...

Also, the holes for the screws are drilled and made to fit my racks. They should really be oval, but then I would have to mill them and that would be a bit risky considering the thin veneer and the equipment I have.

But still, I'm very pleased with them. They are only there to look good anyway and four layers of varnish does help. I built eight singles and a double, but I will build several more soon. I need some more for the fronts of all my racks, but I'm also considering covering the back of the racks with larger ones and mill some ventilation holes in them.
