HOw much does recapping cost?

I'm sure it depends on the technician and the actual piece of gear. But I have absolutely no idea of a ball park range. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

there are way too many variables to give a good idea... for instance your parts or his?? (time researching etc adds up) techs can be anywhere from $50-100 hr depending on where you are on the planet... a big board or a 2 channel pre??
quality of the parts used??

It totally depends

If you have a Mackie 1202 with a power supply hum, it would probably get in and out the door the same day for the minimum shop charge (between $40 and $80). The parts would be from bench stock for less than $5.

If you want to recap a Harrison MR-4, with OEM-style caps (or a little better caps just because they are more modern), expect $200 per channel in labor and $80 in parts, and 3X this for master sections (a freak-festival of tightly placed tiny capacitors).

Some people want to use audiophile film caps in their gear. The price can be 3X, or to the moon. They are more heat-sensitive than standard OEM-types, so require more care (time) installing.

If you have a big project (or expect to ever own/run a studio), it's worth learning how to solder and buying some tools.
