analog tape machine alignment

does anyone know of some decent websites that walk through this process or define some of the techniques?

I have found one but there isn't enough info; particularly regarding azimuth, zenith, etc.

You absolutely need the manual that came with the machine plus the tech notes for all of the updates.

It's also a real good idea to hire somebody with a LOT of experience with the particular machine to teach you how to align and maintain it. Preferably this would be somebody who took the factory maintenance course from the machine's manufacturer.

Up until the past ten years, professional recorders were always sold to facilities having a serious shop on the premises. There's usually a great deal that isn't in the manuals because there were only a few hundred customers and the manufacturer's engineering staff always had a direct relationship with each. I've seen as much misinformation on the net as accurate so I'd be pretty skeptical of anything I read.
