How do you install a Funk Logic Rack for a RNLA?

I'm gonna buy two RNLA and want the Funk Logic rack for it. I'm just wondering how you install it? Would I have to remove all the knobs, put on the new face plate, and then put the knobs back on?

Thanks!

yup.

but instead of a faceplate, the entire "plate" is the rack

Thanks for the reply.

So, I have to unscrew EVERY knobs???? That seems a little silly. If I buy from a place like Mercenary, do you think they'll have it assembled for me? Two RNLA and a Funk Logic faceplate?

it takes less then 1min to do.
if it takes longer.. i suggest you either take less or more drugs.. cuz your dosage is incorrect.

Ohhhhhh... that makes more sense. By "pop right off" do you mean you pull them off?

Exclamation 69 Merc

Without sounding like a whiningbitch...the Merc faceplate is great but didn't ever line up too well with the lights on the RNC and sh*t.

Maybe i'm just stupid

They photographed really well for eBay though

Great units for sidechain keying!

The rubberized knobs pop off. Takes about .3 seconds per knob.

Once the unit is in place, and before you replace the knobs, you tighten a 10/32 (rack) screw through the bottom of the tray, into the carefully placed nutsert in the bottom of the unit.

THEN you replace the knobs. It's the simplest thing you can do. It's NOT rocket surgery. (Sorry Mercenary...that's still my favorite Merc T-shirt)

I like the "4 food groups of recording" one.

Anyways, I just grabbed a pair of needlenose pliers for leverage and just pulled them straight out. I was hesitant at first as well, so I called up Mercenary just to make sure, and they confirmed that you've just gotta yank 'em out and push 'em back in. It's not rocket "surgery," but I was a little hesitant to just rip the knobs off of a piece of gear at first too.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Jim! But, I didn't know the Funk Logic stuff used a "tray". Am I looking at the wrong one?

It has an underside support so it doesn't rip off the front panel pots. Did you plan on building a support, or just slidinng these into a rack off a piece of stif cardboard?

Seriously- the Funk Logic tray has a bottom piece that is not indicated on the picture.

The other way you rack these is with a UNS-1 or similar, a "universal" short 1 RU unit with a bunch of holes drilled in them specifically for racking gear. Raxxess or Middle Atlantic, both make various versions, none as cool as the Funk Logic way.
