My first and last patchbay question thread..i kinda promise.

I feel stupid, but I'm about to jump into the patchbay world. My setup is pretty simple. I'm going to be mixing ITB and I'll be using a Central Station for monitoring. I should mention that I will be pushing the 11 tracks (i have 11 outboard pres) into my MOTU 24 I/O for recording. The stereo outs of my MOTU would go into the presonus Central Station always.

My plan is to run 16 channels of snake from the tracking room.

My only outboard work would be running the 2 track out of the presonus through my 2 Chameleon Labs 7602's to add a little love to the final stereo mix. I would likely record the nicer sounding stereo track back into my daw for burning cd's.

So, would my snake run into the ins on the bottom back of the patchbay and then the outs (back top) would go into my MOTU ins on channels 1-11?

It seems like this is how it would work. If I wanted to connect channel three preamp to channel one preamp for an extra thick signal chain I would just plug the mic into chanel three and then patch from the out of channel one into the in of chanel one...yes???

This is also how I could add some outboard gear (eq's, comps etc), right?
Since I only need 11 preamp channels, and 2 for my stereo I-O for final mixes; doesn't that leave me 11 more ins and outs to work into the mix???

Thanks,
Rich

That sounds right (on everything). The only thing to watch for is if you're planning on normalling anything. That can get a little tricky. Over this last summer I found myself wiring 5 half-normalled 96 point tt patchbays. I will leave it to your immagination on how many actual connections that is to solder.
