Buy amp from USA, need transformer in UK?

Guys, sorry to post again (!), but I was looking at picking up a mesa rectoverb or budda superdrive off ebay in US, but I'm in UK. Does anyone know if these amps will need a transformer?

I saw a post saying that mesa are switchable by internal jumper, but I've just called Mesa and they say that's not true for the rectoverb, and that I'd need a new transformer which will cost several hundred pounds... are they really that expensive?!

Does anyone know if that's true? (the Mesa guy sounded like he just wanted me to get a Mesa from a UK distributor so I dont know if I can trust him...)
