Thread Starter | obscure boutique amp companies - lets hear 'em
2 events that rocked my world in the past year . . . One: stumbling onto Mercenaryaudio.com and discovering an entire world of boutique audio equipment that I never knew exsisted, which led me to gearslutz (I felt like the "bee girl" in the No Rain video) and two: playing a used Cornford Harlequin at my local guitar center. This got me into boutique amps. I was pissed I'd never heard of Cornford before, this amp was KILLER!! I bought one right away. and in my endless night time web surfing I've come across some REALLY cool amps I'd like to get someday . . . the sheer number of amp makers is crazy so DO SHARE the ones you know . . .

Savage Audio. http://www.savageamps.com/
Very nice high quality amps and comparatively reasonably priced considering.
Quasi boutique -- if for no reason other than not a lot of people know about them -- is the Fender II series from the early 1980s. Designed by Paul Rivera -- now of Rivera amps. Overdrive/channel switching, all vale, PTP wiring, robust construction. Champ II, Super Champ, Princeton II, Deluxe II, Concert II and Twin II.
Some love them and others hate them. I've owned a Twin II and recently bought a Super Champ for $500. Here's some info on the Princeton II. http://www.geocities.com/princerev2/faq.html

One of the best sounding rigs I head was a combination of some boutique pedals (blackstone appliances?) into a Thundertweak Buzzbomb 1x12 (awful name, great sound) and a Victoria tweed reissue (can't remember what amp it was copying). He was playing a 60's tele with a humbucker in the bridge. SM5 was on the vic, 121 on the buzz. It also happened to be in the hands of one of the best guitarists I've worked with. http://www.sonicdeli.com/ThunderTweakWeb/ http://www.mindspring.com/~j.blackstone/ http://www.victoriaamp.com/ |
