Any Fender Jaguar owners out there?

I've got a MIJ Fender Jag(sunburst) from the early 90's or so and am about to change some of the electronics on it. Just got me wondering what kind of jags are out there and what you've done to it(if anything).

My plan is to change the bridge pick up to a Novak lipstick jag pickup, put it some shielding, and possibly rewire some of the switch functions. Depends on what the new pickup sounds like. I still have the original saddles, but I've switched out the bridge saddles with Graph Tech String Savers cause I couldn't find Mustang saddles. They definitely do the job though. I might add the mute on if I can find the parts for it.

You might want to check out the new Johnny Marr Signature Jaguar from Fender. There are some interesting modifications on that model that might be inspiring.

With all of that routing for all of the switches on a Jaguar, there's no end to what you could modify on one of those!

I actually don't own a Jaguar. I've quelled most of my guitar (not bass) gas with a new Strat... but the 60th anniversary Jaguar in Burgundy Mist Metallic with the bound and blocked fretboard looks gorgeous to my eyes.

Good luck

Take a look at the Offset Guitar forum...

OffsetGuitars.com • Index page

Probably a ton more Jag owners and Jag upgraders there.

Jag

I have an original 68 Jag except for one thing. It has a new Fender neck from 1992 when I let a friend borrow it for a recording session and it somehow got the neck broke. Never got a good explanation.

Love the guitar though - plays like butter an sounds fantastic.

The silver color is from the factory in 1968 per my request.

There are also a few of my other guitars I record with hanging up in the photo.

Life is to short to dwell on such things but I must admit I was a little peeved at the time.

I'd never sell it anyway. It was gift from Fender to me.

Mine is a 1980s MIJ Jag, 62 reissue I think?? Never was quite sure, got it used almost 20 years ago.

I've tried to keep mine as original as possible. I had to replace the tremolo bushing assembly as the original one was split in two places (whoever had this thing beat the crap out of it apparently).

Few years back had to get the tone wheel replaced (old roommate didn't want to stop turning when the knob stopped).

Put new pickup covers on it.

New trem bar. Had to sand the post a bit, but it works well now.

Replaced stripped screws.

Thinking about replacing the bridge, as the stock bridge is pretty corroded.

Original owner soldered the saddles together (?!) and I thought I'd have to replace but knocked the solder loose pretty easily.

I get my parts from Angela Instruments, as they carry all authentic Fender replacement parts for Jags, just to keep the "refurbish" as original as possible.
