I saw Dinosaur Jr. perform at a club that holds about 500 people in the early 90's. The guitar was so loud that I couldn't hear the bass or drums! It was so loud that I couldn't tell what song he was playing! I loved Dinosaur Jr., but that show turned me off on them for years. But then I started listening to them again recently and realized how much I still like them.

yeah they are loud,
i see mascis or dinosaur jr pretty much everytime they come to austrlaia. j masics has done a lot of acoustic shows here. last one was fairly recent and it was a sit down theatre type gig...... very rock n roll.....
i love the tone he gets, i uploaded that set because it is one of the better ones around.

If you haven't seen 1991: The Year That Punk Broke, you really need to. Masic' sound is most definitely a Jazzmaster into a Marshall Stack cranked hard. The footage from that show in Belfast is amazing, the Youth are also in top, drum stuck guitar smashing form!

Lucky sun of a gun! Grant Hart from Husker Du did a gig recently but I wasn't able to attend, I only found out 3/4 of the way into a night of extremely heavy drinking that it was on the next day.
I'm kinda excited to see Stepehen Malkmaus, whenever he arrives, or Chelsea Moving Light. Lee hasn't convinced me, the only solo album by him that I really dug was Amarillo Ramp.

I went guitar shopping convinced I wanted a particular guitar, but once I started playing through the choices and hearing which guitars actually felt good & sounded good acoustically, comparing clean & natural overdrive when you dig in.
Take your sweet time, save and just be ready when the right guitar speaks to you.
If I want to hear what a guitar actually sounds like, I find the amp with the best clean
headroom.
You may also think you want a bound neck and find that you hate the finish preferring an unbound neck that plays like butter. Gloss finish may look good, but not feel as good in your hands to a natural rosewood, ebony matte finish.

Saw them at the Warfield in SF in the 90s. Love em, but the guitars distorted my EARS. Someone barfed in my Doc Marten. God - what a night! :(
That said, Murph the drummer wore OP cord shirts, a tank top, and flip flops. The ultimate fashion (or anti fashion) statement!
