customized tele help

I customized my black out telecaster, and i love it! Aesthetically(Old school tele looks with a polka dot pickguard) and sonically(I put in: bridge-SD screamin' demon, mid-rio grande vintage tallboy, neck-dimarzio area-T neck vertical stack humbucker; for all my tonal needs) it's everything I want except for one thing: around the 1.55kHz to 1.88kHz range, there's this very terrible pinging. I'm just wondering what the source of this problem could be, such as bad wiring, soldering, or pickup distance from string. I can obviously EQ it out when I'm recording but live, I don't want to hurt people's ears cause it definitely is distracting and bothersome to me especially when I'm playing my clean surfy stuff through my reverb-soaked Lucky13. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. This is the first guitar I completely retrofitted myself, what did I do wrong, so I never make this ghastly mistake again!?

I've been having similar problems with my first guitar build. I think it's more to do with the set-up, action or hardware rather than the wiring. EQ-ing it will do something but it will change your sound and you'll still have the harmonics present.

What customisation did you do to the tele? Purely electronics?

I've ordered some Graphtech saddles to try and counteract the problem with my guitar and will be trying them out this weekend when I have time. I think it's largely due to the steel saddles that typically have a resonant peak in the 1-3kHz region. Graphtech say their saddles (made of a graphite impregnated compound) removes this issue.

I'll let you know how things go!

Saddles to start with, if you have steel you could try a Gotoh bridge which IIRC has chrome plated brass...

I replaced all the electronics and the bridge to fit the humbucker in the neck position. I got what I think is a Gotoh bridge off eBay, looking like what the reputable dealers say is the tele Gotoh humbucker bridge, and it does seem to be made very well or what you expect to be Gotoh quality. Came in a bag(bulk package) with a paper saying it was Gotoh and warranty info, but who knows what the heck it is, I suppose. Not too much of a burn to replace the bridge/saddles. I did entertain the idea of the problem being the bridge, but I recently changed the strings and fiddled with the setup, and it did not help at all. I will doublecheck and see if I can setup the guitar better.
Those Graphtec saddles look awesome! Also, tell me which style you got as well, the Originals or Classics, I'm very interested to hear what you think of em.
Thanks a lot to both of you for your input.

I bought a Gotoh GTC-101 bridge (strat type) which is supposedly brass and that's the one I'm having issues with.

I've ordered the originals which people said zapped their tone on a strat (something which is subjective but it should solve the high frequency spike problem). The classics are meant to give the same performance without any loss of tone. I think they do look pretty cool, but probably won't do the job I need them too.

Again, I'll let you know on Sunday/Monday how things pan out as I'm currently a couple of thousand miles away from home!

Best, Jamie.

Is the "ping" only in the bridge position? Are there string trees? It could be a few things, but hard to guess. Changing saddles is a starting point, but it could be a simpler less obvious thing.

Upload a pic or two and a short sample.

here's a couple clips: one from a very recent recording(the distorted one) from an amp and I took all processing and EQ off, and the clean one is straight into the audio interface.

There is a a string tree for the two high strings. The ping is across all pickup positions. And the humbuckers are not terribly high output, I wanted it to still sound like a tele. SD Screamin' Demon in bridge and dimarzio Area T in the neck.
I know both tones are pretty heavy on the reverb which only exacerbates the problem I'm having but it's part of what I want my tone to be, and let me assure you it's bad if not worse live standing in front of the amp most of the time. My LTD doesn't do it-_-... will post pics soon if it'll help.
Thanks for listening and trying to help everyone!
