Help me understand what's wrong with my guitar

Just an Epiphone Les Paul

The bridge/treble pick up is barely producing sound.

After an extended visit from my little brother, my input jack was busted, tuner knob broken off & the body was cracked near the cable input.

Except for the crack, I had everything fixed. Not sure why I didn't plug in & check at the shop, but I didn't.

I finally go to use it last night to find out the bridge pick up is not working. I assume this is unrelated to the work done on the input jack, but not knowing much about the electronics in guitars, I'm asking folks that know more.

The tech did some soldering on the wires, replaced a bolt-looking piece & replaced the plastic cap with a metal one. Any chance he missed something or is the pick up completely unrelated?

Thanks

If your little brother truly abused the guitar--like dropped it off a roof or something--I guess there could be some internal damage to the p-up. More likely there's a bad or loose solder somewhere in them buggy works.

A good repair tech should have tested all of that before he told you it was ready. I'd take it back to him and ask that he give it another going-over.

The tuner, crack & input jack are all on the same side. Hopefully he just sat it somewhere unstable & it fell. Not sure what it would take to crack the body like that, but I'm guessing it's more consistent with a fall than sledge hammer treatment. But the way the input jack was hanging out, who knows. He had a few months to work on it.

That's my plan. I just want to be as informed as possible.

I'm mad at myself for not testing it, but yeah, you would think he would check his work.

Hi

wow, little siblings, eh...

Well, the thing that comes to mind which is not obvious, is the pickup selector toggle switch. It could have gotten hit and damaged internally. I know the one on my Epiphone Dot is quite temperamental. You might want to play with it a bit to see if the sound somes back in the bridge position.
It could also be your tech who forgot a solder connection, or a loose wire.

When you said "He had a few months to work on it" did you mean your brother or the tech? I don't know which would be worse...

This is what I was wondering. Would a wire at the input jack affect the pick ups like this. I'd like to go back somewhat informed.

LOL. My brother.

This guitar (glad it wasn't my acoustic or bass) and amps were the only things in my home studio that weren't packed up while he was there. He'd go down and play... had actually never played before. He's back home, has his own guitar and has gotten pretty good. I hope his new found talent is worth my guitar.

Oh man haha us little brothers can be annoying sometimes.. I apologize for my kind! I'm sure I've broken many of my older sister's things!

But yeah, definitely take the guitar back to the repair guy and have him go I've it again. It's not impossible that he somehow missed a wire or didn't do something the way he should've done.
