Tips & Techniques:Urei 1176LN is a Free PreAmp

The Urei 1176 LN has an active balanced input stage. It uses a 5534 chip which sounds quite decent. There is quite a deal of input gain available which we rarely use. Many Valve/Tube mics have quite a high output level and of course don't need Phantom power.
A U67 (Pad in the PSU removed, if present) fed directly into the 1176LN makes an excellent vocal recording chain. No Preamp needed.

Active Basses and Guitars also have plenty of level to drive the Urei.
A simple jack to XLR, pin 3 tied to 1, unbalancing cable, is all that is needed for Bass heaven. No DI, No Preamp.
