Tips & Techniques:Upright Bass Sound III

• I wrap a sock around the body of a Rodes OR Earthworks mic and jam it in the bridge of the Bass. Make sure the Rodes Large diaphram mic eq is flat and is in Omni. Earthworks is already flat and omni...

•*Then Grab a TLM 103 and face it 2-3 feet away facing the f-hole. Run these mics into some decent preamps (preferable tube)

• With this chain there is not much need for EQ as long as your mics are placed well. Maybe a little compression. EQ usually messes up Bass and can change the notes of it. You have to be careful what freq. you are boosting or attenuating, you could be boosting the wrong note. Or taking away the right note.

EX: 123.47hz is the note B2 and so on.

After following these instructions then listen to the compliments you get on the Upright bass sound in your mixes.
