Tips & Techniques:Logic 8 How to migrate samples to external drive

Hi,

I recently installed Logic Studio on a Macbook and it's great but I got hold of an external hard drive yesterday and would like to run all of Logic's samples off of it - would someone be kind enough to tell me the best way to do this? Should I reinstall Logic or can I just access the samples and move them?

Many thanks in advance!

the easiest way to do this is to move the relevant folders in the following location to your new location.
/Library/Application Support/Logic

once the copy is complete, command+alt drag the folders that you copied back to the above location which will create aliases then logic will find them in the new location!

Yes, but after you copy the "Sampler Instruments alias" to the original location, make sure you take "alias" out of the name or it will not recognize it.

I Believe that all apple loops reside in the Garageband folder, I might be wrong, maybe some here could clear this.

That used to be the case.

Now all Apple factory Apple Loops are stored in:
/Library/Audio/Apple Loops

Just did it. Only thing was that when copying the alias back it asked for authentication. It works also with Instrument Library folder from /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/
