Tips & Techniques:Elec Gtr - heavy guitars... use a pedal for more defined tone

we use a tubescreamer (an old one) plug it between your guitar and the amp and your bass area will tighten up. if you double, triple, quadruple track your guitars you will feel the FX while mixing.

you don't need to dial in distortion or boost.

Heavy sound with pedals

My guitarist that I am recording right now uses a solid state Randall head and a mesa 2x12 cab. For a solid state, it sounds pretty damn good, but we cant seem to get a good attack or a great sound that will cut through, and we dont have a tube screamer (let alone a vintage one) at our disposal. We do however happen to have a Boss Metalzone pedal. Is there any way to get that same effect with that pedal?
