All you have to do is write a review of any pro audio gear (hardware or software) between now and the end of June. Gearslutz' very own Jules will choose the best four reviews after the closing date and those four lucky writers will each receive a TubeTech Classic Channel license from our friends at Softube. Already have this awesome plugin? No problem - Softube will let you swap it for other plug-ins of your choice (up to a $489 value).

Read more about this incredible plugin here.

The boring stuff: the contest closes June 30, 2013. You can do as many reviews as you like but remember they are being judged on quality, and you can only win once! An iLok is required to use the plug-in. Winners will be notified via Gearslutz PM or email. The judge's decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome.

Good luck!

Waves Plug-ins in general

After purchasing their platinum bundle and C6 compressor I was pumped to do some serious mixing this weekend. But alas, I am in software purgatory.

Their weird-ass website tells me that I need to register them first, then install.
Ok, my account page lists the products I have purchased and displays the serial numbers and says they need activating. But no button to activate them.

So I go to the register product page and paste in the serial number from the account page. No love. For each product, it tells me the serial number is invalid.
Sigh. I send them email from the contact page. In the confirmation email it sends me, there is a comment about their new support site, with a different URL. OK, why a different website? So I go there and it says instead of registering first, I need to download the latest software, install it and then launch their new license center.

Cool. I do that and now it gives me options, but no explanation of what the differences are. It tells me I have "unidentified" connected devices. What do they mean by a device and how do I make it an identified device? Again, no explanation, no help tab, no info if you hover the mouse, no info if you right-click on anything.

I had previously purchased and installed their IR-1 convolution reverb and I recall that it required several emails and a phone call to get going, but that was quite a while ago and doesn't seem to apply now... The plug-in is cool, but getting them to work is ridiculous.

How can a software company that make such cool products create such a lame website and installation process?

My UA and SSL plug-ins installed fine. A little weird but at least I got through them without external help. I am going with them first, in the future.

My experience w waves in general

My experience has been different.
Seems like every plug in company has their quirks, but I had no problem with the web site or getting authorizations.
When I have had issues I got a reasonably quick response considering the time zone.
I think you must have been really excited & maybe in a rush.
Slow down read the install instructions, Download the latest "everything" and I think you'll be fine.
Best regards,
MH

I got waves gold as my first logic addon. Really cant complain - obv. they're a mixed bunch, but for an upgrade package, speaking as an amateur, (i) they are hard to beat and (ii) their best plugs, even in the gold package, are top quality and totally useable / are used on pro recordings. Good range of complex to simple plugs as well.

People say "they have a certain bland sound" and i can sort of relate to that - you want to be shellshocked, go lots of research and shell of lots of money on a single plugin instead.

By far my most used are the renaissance series (brilliant, simple compressor, eq great fun too), h-delay (really good creative delay, pro-sound-capable without a doubt), maxxbass, q-10.

I should also say Read The Manual every time.

Since getting waves, over the months I've stocked up on higher quality stuff like soundtoys package (check them out for sure!) and also got the CLA and puig compressor/eq packs, which are lots of fun too.

Never had any install / authorisation problems, but have never required customer support / replacement licences so cant speak for that side too much.

Hope that's helpful to someone, somewhere,

My 2 cents
