Gearslutz Reviews

Win 1 of 4 Softube TubeTech Classic Channel plug-ins in our May/June giveaway!

All you have to do is write a review of any pro audio gear (hardware or software) between now and the end of June. Gearslutz' very own Jules will choose the best four reviews after the closing date and those four lucky writers will each receive a TubeTech Classic Channel license from our friends at Softube. Already have this awesome plugin? No problem - Softube will let you swap it for other plug-ins of your choice (up to a $489 value).

Read more about this incredible plugin here.

The boring stuff: the contest closes June 30, 2013. You can do as many reviews as you like but remember they are being judged on quality, and you can only win once! An iLok is required to use the plug-in. Winners will be notified via Gearslutz PM or email. The judge's decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome.

Good luck!

JDK Audio V14

The JDK Audio V14 is a 500-series EQ. This four-band EQ has no shelf on the top or the bottom, but you have flexible bands where you control the gain(+/- 12 db) and the frequencies(that cover the range from 20 to 20k). It also has in/out button.

The V14 is not a colored EQ and might be considered transparent, that's why so many people call it a general-use EQ. Personally, I like the top of this EQ especially on plucked string instruments( such Guitars or Ouds for middle eastern people ) where it gives them that "sparkly sound." However, I don't see it smooth, which means it could be harsh when overused.

The price of the unit is very affordable, and probably one of the best EQs that can be found in that range. This what makes this EQ very competitive.

The thing that I don't like about this unit is the building quality. The plastic used in the knobs feels so cheap and so light when you rotate them. But anyway, all of these cons are seen logical when recalling the unit's price.

I highly recommend this EQ for people who want to start their 500-series journey.. nothing to regret
