ATR Magnetics tape

I realize the market for reel to reel tape aint what it ued to be.
But here we have analog tape manufactured in the US and that has a +10db operaring level.
So who cares? Well I do, so how does it sound? Like tape ought to.

There are 2 schools in the esoteric tape using community, they arent necessarily mutually exclusive; one says tape sounds best as a method of capturing what is there
with the least total distirtion.
The other says ; slam it best compressor ever.

Exaggerations yet both would be pleased with ATR

I have not had any major shedding issues on my studer a80.
While +10 @320nwb is crazy high level for older decks the pro decks are robust enough to handle it.
What exact setup you think sounds best is down to you and your ears and trial and error, and deck, as the circuit design behaves differently with different gain staging on each machine.

I have used old Ampex 456 and 3M 996 as well as quantegy and RMGI SM 900.
Now only RMGI and ATR remain.
Im glad both remain and both make a solid product.
I like the sound of both existing tapes.
Right now im using the ATR,
which is a fantastic tape.

It would be sad if there was not anyone making tape and thank goodness there 2 conpanies.
Each.tape has a sound, to describe it would be difficult.
The euphonic quality of tape to me is undeniable, and im not saying its not somewhat subtle as,well.
At its heart a tape machine is meant to simply recreate what is there.
The sublte qualities of tape exceed my sense of language today, best to.try out for yourself. One happy A80 ATR tape user here.
