| Bang for buck is the LOUDEST bang out there After jumping onboard Cakewalk on the solid PA 7, enduring the rocky PA 8 and for a very long time enjoying the excellent PA 9 before going to Sonar when Sonar hit v 4...I was a hardcore Cakewalk guy, perhaps because I started with primarily MIDI needs, and it was a pretty mature platform at that time, and a Mac-less man, DP was not an option...
Jumped to Reaper when I read a thread about it online. I think the thing that pulled me over more than any other was that it seemed to me it that time that I was simply getting more out of Reaper in terms of resource utilization--more VST and VSTis. Better stability. The lightweight installation and amazing price tag were a plus as well.
Look...all these apps are good, really amazingly good. All you need to know is that Reaper is that good too, despite the price tag. Who among us really uses more than `15 or 20% of a DAW's features? Reaper has them all, was early on some things that are super important, like PDC. The routing, to me, is the best I have seen. Some Preaux Toulez people aren't keen on the way you approach comping, but I think it is fine.
And perhaps the nicest things about it is how wildly active the development community is and how regular substantive, feature-adding updates are.
if you are perfectly fine with your current app, why even take a look? No one should love the app more than the act of getting your music work done. I would say the most compelling case for Reaper is getting OFF your app's pricey upgrade ladder and getting onto one that is super active, innovative, and super cheap. |
