Reaper 3

This DAW has won me over.
I was a Pro Tools user from Pro tools 3 into pro tools Mix got tired of being tethered to hardware, and native power exploded.

Initially I switched to Reaper @ v2. With V3 lots of updates and improvements ,now V4 is out as well, but I work with V3 right now.

The 64bit audio path is a good kind of overkill.
I spoke with the developer about why no dither in the mixer?
He said that truncation errors (which at the highest could be around 32 bit) were inaudible , mind you I am paraphrasing, but it makes sense.

In practice the whole system is very transparent.I do sum OTB and Reaper is well equipped for this.

Coming from Pro Tools I find this DAW more intuitive, in fact its easier then Logic for me as well.

I like that there are multiple paths to one end.
The customization and depth of the program is beggining to be staggering as I don't have the interest in mastering what could be very complex customized program.
However since Im not a total tech nerd it is good that the basic features are very easy to use and I always am impressed when I watch a video about different tricks there are many.

The stabilty issue was a concern for me at first as the mac version was just being developed when I came aboard.
But I can say it has never crashed while tracking or recording for years, not once.
I could not say this of Pro Tools though it was reliable it did once or twice crash on me while recording.
Now you can draw from that limited data what you will , but relying on a program to be steady and then it repeatably delivers , well that gains apparently warranted trust.
Where the program in general has a limitation is in how it interacts with the outside world, let me explain.
Reaper crashes but it is always with plug-ins and various compatability issues. This was especially true with AU which I have dropped.
Vst works well but when reaper crashes its from a plug-in.
This also brings me to a second point, I would love for Reaper to have Eucon
but support requires some interface between Reapers dev's and the dev's of other products.
I guess I feel that there is almost a culture of doing things differently with the dev's and that is what is cool about Reaper!
At the same time adopting and making the relationships to support various standards would be so appreciated by this user.
At any rate no going back for me an excellent value and an innovative intuitive DAW that gives anything out there a run for its money

Bang for buck is the LOUDEST bang out there

After jumping onboard Cakewalk on the solid PA 7, enduring the rocky PA 8 and for a very long time enjoying the excellent PA 9 before going to Sonar when Sonar hit v 4...I was a hardcore Cakewalk guy, perhaps because I started with primarily MIDI needs, and it was a pretty mature platform at that time, and a Mac-less man, DP was not an option...

Jumped to Reaper when I read a thread about it online. I think the thing that pulled me over more than any other was that it seemed to me it that time that I was simply getting more out of Reaper in terms of resource utilization--more VST and VSTis. Better stability. The lightweight installation and amazing price tag were a plus as well.

Look...all these apps are good, really amazingly good. All you need to know is that Reaper is that good too, despite the price tag. Who among us really uses more than `15 or 20% of a DAW's features? Reaper has them all, was early on some things that are super important, like PDC. The routing, to me, is the best I have seen. Some Preaux Toulez people aren't keen on the way you approach comping, but I think it is fine.

And perhaps the nicest things about it is how wildly active the development community is and how regular substantive, feature-adding updates are.

if you are perfectly fine with your current app, why even take a look? No one should love the app more than the act of getting your music work done. I would say the most compelling case for Reaper is getting OFF your app's pricey upgrade ladder and getting onto one that is super active, innovative, and super cheap.
