Stage Custom Advantage Nouveau

a great snare I picked up second hand.
Mahogany/Falkata Shells with Birch or Oak Outer ply.
I have the Cranberry Red color. 14? X 5.5?

I really like this snare , its the high end ring, the upper frequencies have this really nice sustain. The drum holds its tuning really well excellent hardware.

I like it set up with some tone and sustain not a deadened sound though I know people like that sound this drum I have found has a wonderful quality in a recording if you want some tone and ring.

From Yamaha:
FRC Nouveau Lug

We took our revolutionary Nouveau lug and crafted it from a proprietary Fiber Reinforced Composite to create a drum that's lighter in weight and more resonant. The lug hooks onto a post that is mounted to the shell at the nodal point so there is no vibration of the shell dampened at the tuning points. The Nouveau lug also allows you to change heads in about half the time since the tension rods don't have to be removed to remove the head.
Mahogany/Falkata Shells with Birch or Oak Outer ply

Stage Custom Advantage Nouveau shells are constructed of an outer ply of Birch (gloss finishes) or Oak (matte finishes), six plies of Philippine Mahogany, and an inner ply of Falkata. The shells produce a warm tone with a low fundamental with a good balance of attack and sustain.

This is actually fairly accurate for a marketing blurb I agree.

I also own a vintage sligerland snare and used to own a yamaha custom maple snare.

The slingerland has more mid range thwack and it doesnt hold a tune very well much older hardware of course.
there is a rich complexity to the slingerland the the custom stage does not have, the yamaha custom stage is more well, clean balanced Yamaha sound,
again with an exquisite higher frequency delicacy, maybe starighter in the mids.

The Yamaha custom maple has a more complex tone as well more body but the custom maple stage holds its own against these more expensive snares .

I like this snare as a recording drum, nice clarity in a mix deopending on what your after.
