Need Help Recreating Studio Sound

Hi,

I'm a long time lurker (2 years+) finally posting because I am stumped. And no, I did not put the studio gear together (no comments there please).

I have to recreate a "sound" for a tour (summer 07 major). Just 2 channels.

Ch 1 (Studio): Blue Kiwi Mic (w/pop & shock, not sure what polar setting) > Blue Kiwi Mic Cable > Blue Robbie Preamp > Mogami Cable > UA 2192 Converter (@24/192) > Logic (only a few plugs)
Ch 1 (Tour): RODE S1 Mic > Mogami Cable > [???????????] > MUSE Receptor AD (@24/44.1)> plugs (I can pick)

Ch 2 (Studio): Marshall ModeFour Amp (speaker emulated line out) > ProCo Cable > Ebtech Line Level Shifter > ProCo Cable > UA 2192 Converter (@24/192) > Logic (only a few plugs)
Ch 2 (Tour): Marshall ModeFour Amp (speaker emulated line out) > ProCo Cable > [???????????] > MUSE Receptor AD (@24/44.1)> plugs (I can pick)

Money is not important, but space (tight racks) and road worthiness is. PLEASE, PLEASE help me fill in the blanks (the ?'s above). And no, the other gear is non-negotiable.

Thanks so much for the help.

PS

No, I don't have the plugin list. I've only spoken with the recording engineer.

Also, the vocals were recorded in a small room (but not a booth), whereas, on tour, they will obviously be on stage (though it will be quiet, as the band is on IEM, not wedges).

Also, no effects gear (eq/dyn/etc.) suggestions, as I plan to exclusively use plugins. I'm just interested in the input chain.

Thanks again!

Would you be able to post a clip of the tracks you need to recreate? This would really help.

I'd love to, but I can't - signed a non disclosure agreeement - the music has not yet been released. Vocals are male (tenor/baritone), pop/rock type (not raspy or screamy-very clean in fact), and the guitars (Fender Strat) are crunchy (think "Jimmy Eat World").

this thing, recreating the studio sound, this is your dictate from the label and/or artist? seems such a shame, live shows have so much potential to create a whole other world for the music to flow thru.

can you name a different record with a similar vibe to the one you're trying to recreate?

also, you may want to post this on steve remote's forum.

Yeah, is this a standard way of working? I've never actually heard an FOH guy ask about the kick drum mic. They usually like to hear a CD and see the band rehearse.

Audiences aren't going to complain if they can hear that you used a Blue Mic Cable on the kick mic on the CD but not on the tour. Unless they have a brand new way to make a kick drum sound that nobody's heard before.

I dunno.. does this seem weird? It's not a fighter jet. Or a new way to mop floors. In the case of a well-established artist, or a cheeky cover version, or even a super recognizeable loop, maybe...

Sorry about the confusion.

I'm with a fairly well known, established, artist, I'm not a FOH guy. I've been asked to recreate his studio sound. That's it. Notice how I didn't ask about the kick or anything else. Just Lead Vox (& I mentioned the guitar situation as well).

As for vibe, think Foo Fighters "In Your Honor".

Nothing to trigger, I just would like some gear recommendations on the input chain.

I appreciate it guys.

Is it just me, or is this question a bit odd...?

Are you doing the livesound for this artist, or are you only some sort of consultant?

Because if you are doing the sound, you are in fact the FOH guy. And if not, i would worry more about getting the right guy to do the job and alot less about the gear.

The artist mixed by a talented FOH guy who has heard the artist before, thru a good pa&mixer, with decent mics and outboard, at a decent venue, will very much sound like the record. Assuming that the artist actually plays it like the record in the first place...which you can never really assume these days.

99% of the audience probably wont hear any difference between different gear, assuming its of good quality, and handled by a pro.

But maybe thats just how i feel...?
