I'm gonna start working as a FOH engineer for a local band next weekend. I'd done it before but have some doubts about which are the "typical" crossover frequencies points (3 way system). In the past I've done it by ear, listening to music that I know through the system but now I want to do with a more professional approach. So what's the right way to choose crossover frequencies? Is this even the correct forum jeje? Can someone point me out to a good live forum? I still don't know what type of speakers or power amps the band is going to use (doing that next week), I do know that we're using a dbx DriveRack PA. Ohh! and if you have any other tips, comments or anything to say I'll really appreciate it. |

"typical" is useless. Whomever designed the system designed it to be used with a specific XO and you should not stray from too far. Any idea whose manufacture? Whose drivers? Are you talking 18", 12" & 2" ? Where is the PA coming from? Someone there should know. If you're working with a band in a club using the club PA, you should be reluctant to make significant XO changes. 1/3 octave EQ changes to tune the room SHOULD be your perogotive. |
