Fishing pole boom- where to buy?

Hey guys.

I'm trying to find folks who make decent "fishing pole" style mic booms.
Searching Google didn't turn up much.. Maybe I'm not searching for the right thing..

Any help would be great.

there are many a models out there doing essentially the same thing, BUT, depending on your real use, be aware that the good ones can be quite expensive. Good means: light weight (the lighter weight the better), easy/quck to fasten and losen collars, only slight bending when fully extended, and essentially being silent: not producing any creeks or moans when under duress. Good brands are VTB (Kevlar only), Ambient (the more expensive ones), and K-tek.

VDB's are made in france..wear out.. then a nightmare to get fixed[Although Coffey will ..for a price].
The newer PSC booms are great[light,durable] my boom guys love em.'
..made in the US..kind of LSC's "in house" gear company..replacement parts/repairs are a cinchthumbsup
K tek's are good too..just a bit heavier

well,
VTB booms are made in France - we use them day in day out since about 10 years and they're hangin' in nicely. Coffey sound doesn't repair them, they wouldn't know how - if they fail they have been repaired by PSC the importers. Having their own line now, they stopped importing. Generally, VTB booms are unsurpassed re length and weight ratio - nothing beets them to this day. It is true that it became a bit difficult over the last year to get certain parts and that might have been one reason why PSC started their own line. But, to say, they 'wear out' is a bit silly......;-)

I ended up finding a K&M from Leo's Pro Audio in Oakland.
It's probably not as cool as the above mentioned, but it looks like it will work.

Hey Carl..my bad,I just meant ."when" they wear out..the arent easy to fix..IE parts etc..
They're great..just when the sleeves wear out

it's a pain.
BTW..I have 3 of em .2 awaiting repairs .
also ..although PSC is based outta LSC..
odd as it sounds,Coffey did actualy fix one for me last yearthumbsup

Just had to say that the best boom poles in my opinion are - Panamic - made by the master Colin Charles. They are the standard here in the UK and they are easily the most beutifully balanced poles I have used, also they are very durable and you can replace every part etc. Not cheap at all which led me to try some others VTB and Ambient but I soon came back.

dolo72: Unfortunately (and to my knowledge) it is nearly impossible to find Panamics in the States. I wouldn't know one place where to get them......;-( And I haven't a clue why that is.

roundBadge, yes, I might have misunderstood your posting a bit. I've always used VTB and personally always was and still am very happy with them - especially with the large one, I think its' 20 foot. It woulnd't hold an 816 fully extended though, but then I gave up on these quite a long time ago. With PSC having ended distribution, I don't know who is going to take over - the field starts to get crowded.....

The ones PSC are making now seem to work well..my boom guys who swear by the VDB's seem to love the new PSC's too.light/sturdy and rigid[816's,etc]..plus they're a lot easier to fix[swap out new sleeves,etc] and parts are easily avialable..thumbsup

Just an FYI, we certainly do repair these poles (they're VDB not VTB btw) and also install custom coiled cable kits for all VDB sizes. PSC has not been the importer for VDB for years - they ship direct from VDB's office in Texas.
