Thanks, but I wish we could have been a bit cleaner and such... That's just me I guess.

It's my pleasure to share my ideas and build outs with you folks.

Below is a picture of (the dry run) AC power panel install.
It's almost like the drawings I did a while ago.
Can you tell the difference between the drawings and the actual finished panels?

Can't be bothered to check that (insert smug comment about aussie 3-phase being so much less insane), but I do find it odd you mount the UPS' up the top and not down the bottom like every single recomendation I've ever read, is that just a way to keep the door mostly closed or avoid dirt?

I'm not understanding you clearly (maybe because I haven't been to sleep since yesterday morning, but...) Can you explain what you mean by "up the top and not down the bottom..."

I'll give you an answer once I understand you better. Sorry in advance.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

General "best practise" (at least in my dayjob of IT, and I usually see it followed in pro audio and video) is that when filling equipment racks the heaviest equipment goes on the bottom for stability, safety, and to prevent cheap racks from deforming.

As UPS' are pretty much straight lead (and a bit of iron and electrolyte) they're almost always the heaviest items in any rack.

Example from HP

Ahh yes LapTop006, in theory you are completely correct...

Keep in mind that this truck has been design and built at my field shop.
I have specified every inch of this rig.
There is no way on Earth that I would place three heavy UPSs at the top of the rack without making sure it will be safe enough for travel.
These UPSs are installed in a heavy duty rack with rear support and such.
They are not going anywhere and they have not buckled the rack yet!

Furthermore, if they were going into a portable ATA style case on wheels we would have placed them (the heavest items) at the bottom of the rack.
We don't need any top heavy rack on the road on my watch, so I feel you on that one.

IMO, it comes down to how strong the stationary rack is. It doesn't matter how heavy the item is as long as the rack holding it is stable and strong enough to handle it.

Now, what about those "doors" you were refering to? Please explain. Thanks!

In the photo that rack has a door (segmented roller from the top?), I was wondering if the UPS' were at the top so the door can be rested on the cables to prevent excess dust.

Ah, I see...

The roll up door can completely close if applicable.
The cables will feed through the two 4" holes in the aluminum tread plate floor cover.
There's an access door just below the roll up door to make the cable run easier to deal with when you're feeding the feeder through.
