Need to run some cable outdoors

..And semi-permanently.. what is the best way to protect multicore cable if it needs to be outdoors for a few hours ( or permanently )?
Should I be getting some lenghts of pipe together?
Anyone done this?

The best way to deal with this situation is to completely check your multicore cable with a fine tooth comb (at your shop) prior to the install. Make sure there are no cuts or gashes in the cable jacket. Once you have gone thru that, and the cable proved to be fine, the rest will be a breeze.

If you have to extend or interconnect two or more multicore cables, make sure you slip some plastic clear tubing around the connectors. Tape both ends of the plastic at least a foot apart from the connectors. Also bring plenty of clear plastic sheeting to cover the stage box, sub snakes and such.

Rain, mist, morning dew, et cetera, etc. will totally screw with your world. Keep your stuff dry.

That's pretty much it.

Installing some PVC tubing for long term or permanent cable runs will not hurt. IMO, (depending on the conditions) it may not be necessary.

having a piece fo PVC cut n half that you can tape back together is a great thing to have around as well for the inevidable trip through a doorway ( if it is inside to outside for example..) or under a high traffic area.

at my local surplus store, I found .99 bags of gadgets marketed to keep your x-mas lights off of the ground, and mounted to different things.

basically they are stakes with c-rings at the top, I figured I'd drop a few bucks to see if they would come in handy.

the intent would be to cover your snake in a waterproof tubing / coating / etc - and then use these stake-mounts to hold the snake off of the wet ground, using one every 5' or so, yet only a few inches above the ground - otherwise you would be creating something for folks to trip over...

would be cool if someone made expando-tubing that was also waterproof, does anyone?

Jay,
Not sure why you would need all that. The multicore cable's jacket is already waterproof. As long as there are no cuts or gashes, everything is everthing.

Yeah, it's a brand new multicore, but I'll do a good check on it. So it's waterproof? Good news. All I gotta do now is keep the dog away from it...

As long as there are not gashes, cuts, etc., the cable is waterproof. The connectors (of course) are not. Some connectors are weather proof, but you should always wrap them in plastic or better yet, use clear plastic tubing...

Don't let the dog on your cable.
