Talking Aphex 1788A?

I haven´t found any reviews or comments that describes the sound of this unit. Any comments?

Thanks!

Regards,
MB.

Clean. Solid & decent sounding, not extraordinary IMO. Expensive for what it is, but its a good clean pre. I like it for live sound gigs as it travels well, but it would not be my first choice unless it needs to be really roadworthy. Hope this helps!

We just used our rack of 48 chls to record Santana for 9 shows. The pres are very roadworthy and extremely good sounding.

The CAT-5 remote setup is great allowing control of the all the pres from one panel plus the storage of presets.

BTW Effanel in NY also uses a ton of these pres.

We didn't buy the digital output cards and are planning on using Apogee DA-16x to convert to lightpipe and then to MADI for long runs.

$2250 US sounds almost too good for a 1788 with or without the digital card.

2250?
It probably 'fell off a truck'. I'd check the SN with the manufacturer and make sure its not already registered, before you buy it.

re: Aphex 1788

I just bought 2 1788 units with the digital options...before I bought them I spoke to Marvin the owner of Aphex. He told me these pre's sound fantastic. And, I have a very good reason to believe him. I am the owner of several Aphex pieces and they have never dissapointed. I am going to use them to record a full band in the studio as well as using other pre's. When the recording is done I plan to sell one unit as I don't need two on a regular basis. Should anyone be iterested please email me at Ziv@zivmusic.com. Happy recording everyone

Ziv

What other gear do you need to get for your studio?
What are you replacing them with?
I mean, this is a need and not a want, so I'm very interested in your next toy purchase;-)
