Clean. Solid & decent sounding, not extraordinary IMO. Expensive for what it is, but its a good clean pre. I like it for live sound gigs as it travels well, but it would not be my first choice unless it needs to be really roadworthy. Hope this helps!

We just used our rack of 48 chls to record Santana for 9 shows. The pres are very roadworthy and extremely good sounding.

The CAT-5 remote setup is great allowing control of the all the pres from one panel plus the storage of presets.

BTW Effanel in NY also uses a ton of these pres.

We didn't buy the digital output cards and are planning on using Apogee DA-16x to convert to lightpipe and then to MADI for long runs.

$2250 US sounds almost too good for a 1788 with or without the digital card.

2250?
It probably 'fell off a truck'. I'd check the SN with the manufacturer and make sure its not already registered, before you buy it.
