I need a good live sound setup

I don't want to break the bank, however I want a great sound. I have crown amps and I have good high quality stage monitors. I just need a little 16 channel board(Allen and Heath Mixwizard3?) for the stage monitor mix and good powered speakers for the mains. We have a mackie 32/8 which sounds good enough for now. I like the EV powered monitors(ZX5?), however I am hearing some good things about the mackie powered monitors. What would you get?

I've always been impressed w/ EV - especially in comparison to similar Mackie products. Your Mackie board is fine however since you already own it. Just keep it covered & clean.

If you have "CE" series Crown sell them now.

Try not to buy anything of brand "B".

ZX5's powered as your mains? I'd buy the EV SX500's w/ a good power amp like a QSC 2450. New cost w/ warranty $2200. That's 1/2 of my Hi-pack chain & I love it!

maybe some people like that sound though, mackie stays in business. If you want powered speakers, check out jbl eons. They sound really very good and put out some volume.

CE series 4000 rock. Much closer to the K series. CE 1000 and Ce 2000 are budget models.

Do you need subs? how large a venue are you playing? Minimal good sounding for rock band is dual 18"'s per side, or quad 15"'s, good top end full range EAW's , Reinkus mid range line. Allen heath board is good for money. One ce4000 per sub, one for the tops. You'll be into about 10K for a good entry level setup.

If you want to sound like every other under powered club band out there get the Mackies or the EV's.

Just like studio sound, you get what you pay for.

I like the mackie 450s pretty well. The evs are also fine. people have said on this board that the yorkvilles at the same price as the 450s are better, but I havn't had a chance to try them. The jbl eons are utter crap, imho. (which is strange, cause I like a lot of other JBL speakers ande monitors.)
