Hello everyone, my name is Cliff Ribeiro, and I have been working with audio for some time now. Now I would like to take my audio career to the next level. I feel that I’m ready for an internship. I have been working with audio for quite some time now, and for the past 3 years been taking it very seriously, reading, studying, and trying to build my own studio. I believe that I can have a chance to at least serve coffee in a professional environment. Basically what I would like to do is to ultimately become a live sound engineer/on location recording engineer, and I know that for me to accomplish that, I have to start at the bottom. If there are any of you big engineers that would be interested in having me as an intern be it serving coffee, soldering cables, connecting equipment, loading and unloading, whatever it is that would involve live sound and on location recording or in a studio whatever it is, I’m free, willing, and able to do it. I have posted here a resume on my work in audio. Thank you all for your time, and for reading this post. Hello Cliff, Did you get any leads yet? Any internship offers? You should consider coming to the meet and greet party/meeting of NYC Chapter of Gearslutz tomorrow. It’s at Deepwave Studios in LIC. You’ll have a chance to meet many folks that could help you. Building your own studio is a great way to get into the business. That’s how I got started. I built a small portable location recording rig and went out there pushing my stuff. Becoming a live sound and location recording engineer is more about you and less about the studios you interned in. Come down the the meeting tomorrow and make a move on the folks that will be there. You never know… Something good may come from it. So, you solder cables? Do you solder the right way or the wrong way? All the best!

Yeah, what he said. Also, don't sell yourself short by offering to be an "intern." If you know anything at all and want to work for someone else then apply for a job. If you tell someone you want to do it for free because you want to learn then they'll expect you to know nothing at all. I'm not saying that you should have an ego and expect to get paid a lot for your services, or even start out as an A1, but don't give yourself away. I just moved to central Jersey from Arkansas and am about a half step ahead of where you are now. I knew no one when I moved, and just opened the phone book and searched the Internet for sound companies. I've been doing freelance sound in the area for 4 months now and I haven't had to get a single cup of coffee. Every penny that doesn't go to living expenses has gone to gear purchases, and within the month I'll be ready for some location recording gigs. All this just to say that we are very similar in our background, current positions, as well as future goals. Don't give yourself away just because you don't feel you know everything about the industry. Nobody does. |

hey guys thanks alot for the replies, unfortunately I didn't have a chance to read the posting before the meet and greet. Thanks alot for all the great info, and for bishopthomas, I haven't actually thought of it like that, will definately keep that in mind to "honor" the little I know. Again thanks for sincere replies.

hey remoteness would you say that a pair of hr824's or some phones, paired with a firepod and a nice computer be sufficient for onlocation recording?
