| OCT (optimised cardiod triangle)? and a great link First up, OCT - optimised cardiod triangle. Never heard of it, yet it seems like everybody in Europe has been using it for years. Is there a conspiracy to keep OCT out of the USA or is there some valid reason why its not more popular here? Next, while following OCT links around the net, I came across this amazing little utility that analyzes your stereo/surround microphone array based on pattern and location. Guaranteed to keep anyone who works in an office happily occupied for many hours. And it looks a lot more like productive work than that Tits of the Week link you received last week. http://www.hauptmikrofon.de/ima2-fol...ssistant2.html Comments about OCT or this cool mic link? oh, go here http://www.hauptmikrofon.de/ima2.htm for info and a tutorial on the mic placement utility

| Image Assistant 2.0 I can only comment on the amazing little utility that you discovered. The math behind it is good for all I can tell. The underlying imaging concept "recording angle 75%" seems to be sound as well. I've posted the link to this app about 5 or 6 times already on various boards and nobody outside the German speaking countries ever bit. I've checked some "crazy" setups with figure-8 mics using Image Assistant and they ended up working as predicted. Notice the 3 speaker setup when you check OCT 50 & OCT 70 results using the app. 3 speakers in line blow [instead of an arc]everything apart. I'm not sure that it's as bad in real life. Hans |

| Schoeps OCT summary Did you find the OCT surround recordings page on the Schoeps site? http://www.schoeps.de/E/PDFs/oct-e-020301.pdf There is a huge body of discussion of surround recording techniques on the German Tonmeister forum [in German]. |
