I am looking for 8 extra channels for my remote rig. My ideal choise (if I had the money) would be a DAV BG8 and a Lynx Aurora. Have any of you tried the RME stuff? Some people say its very good, others say it "ok". It will be used on acoustic instruments. Best regards Martin. |

I had an Octamic D for a short while a few months back. It didn't really do much for me, so it went back for something else. The preamps are OK, but nothing special. I believe they're the same as the ones in the Fireface? In general I really like RME's stuff. The two pieces thus far that have failed to win me over are the Fireface and the Octamic D. So I guess my vote here is that the Octamic D is "OK". I like my Mackie Onyx 800R a LOT better. |

I have had mine for nine mos. and have had no issues with reliability. The reason I picked it over others was RME's converter reputation and I just have a thing for German design. ( I work for a German owned company). I also have a original Digimax, one of those inexpensive SMPR8II w/ adat out, and a Motu Traveler (new for me), that replaces the SM. I looked at the Onyx but it didn't have 1/4 inch ins and I wanted those to use the unit for the conversion to go lightpipe to my HD24's. No real A/B-ing but I'm happy with it so far. I do mostly acoustic. I have a freind that likes his 800r. Disclosure- I'm still a rookie at this, Tomthumbsup |

I have heard so many differing opinions about the Octamic D. I had an Octamic non-D that tasted some bad juice and fried (not a good smell when the magic smoke gets out!). It was under warranty and RME sent me the D version as a replacement, since that's what they had in stock. After reading negative reviews, I sort of get a negative impression of the Octamic D, but every time I use it, I discover that it always works really well. Given the excellent customer service and the fact that it works very well at what it does, I give it a thumbs up! Compared to a Presonus Digimax, it's a little less lean and shiny, if that means anything to you, which to me is a good thing. In any case, you'll need to judge it for yourself, just like anything else. Edwin |

FWIW - 've seen it on some pretty large budget recordngs for accent mics. The rest were Grace.
