Talking micing "isocab" speaker cabs

This is more of a live sound thing I suppose. I'm trying to get a decent mic'd sound out of one of these isocab things. The SM57 picks up a lot of the obnoxious cab resonance. The 609 silver does much better in that regard but is pretty bright. I suspect the supercardoid pattern may be a big part of why the resonance isn't being picked up. What else is out there in a supercardoid dynamic I can try?

Instead of buying onother mic, maybe line the cab with some 703?
I'm using an isocab here with a 421 and a 57 and am not picking up the resonance you're talking about

What kind of cab do you have? The one I am working with is a Randall cab. The cab resonance I hear from the cab when the guitarist is playing is the same mid range I hear in the monitors.

Lining the cab is a possibility. Have to look into it.

Yeah I am using a randall as well. I did line the lid with 703 in addition to the stuff that comes with it.You might try decoupling it from the floor? I have mine on a stand.
just throwing out ideas here.........

Getting it off the floor is an excellent idea,

1) decouple (get it off the floor)
2) try aiming the mic at the back of the cone if you have an open-backed amp
3) It's possible the resonance of the box is killing your tone. Try to dampen the interior of the box. A little foam, or a packing blanket goes a long way.

These have worked very well for me!

I addressed items 1 and 3 today. There is still some boxiness but I have other speakers and mics to try out. Unfortunately micing the backside of the speaker is almost impossible with this isocab

try spanning the corners of the lid with the rigid fiberglas so there are no parallel "walls" inside it, just like you would treat a CR
