Hey Teddy Just came upon this thread. Thanks for the pictures. Looks like it was an exciting challenge.

Sorry to hijack, but I might have an oratorio gig in that church next spring (just *very* rough plans so far, but I like to have some answers ready for client's questions). I don't worry about 4 second reverb as to the music (oratorio can, for me, have lots more reverb than eg. opera) - but as to audience, I *do* worry about that reverb being on every cough. Was that an issue?

Depends on whether the same audience will be there, yes? There is always easyNOVA and ReNOVAtor from Algorithmix for those clients who are willing to spend the money to cover your time remoning the extraneous noises. BTW Teddy is currently dependent on Public Library net access while he finishes their house in North Carolina. Rich |

The amount of coughing depends, but the reverberation on each cough should be similar for all audiences...of course one can't copy the setup 1:1 (and I don't plan to copy Teddy's setup - great fan of spaced omnis here, tending towards about 8 to 10 mics for a little control of soloists and choir). Still plenty of time until that gig. |

will try again later), with a cough at the end of the music, and some nice coughing with loong reverb afterwards...When the music is going on, the reverb of the coughing is likely to be mostly drowned in the music, I'd say. Trying to remove the cough itself may or may not work. If you're left with the reverb of a cough without the cough itself, it might sound odd... How's that project coming, is it finalized? Daniel | |

Any spectral cleaning tool will remove coughs... Renovator from Algorithmix is pretty awesome, but expensive. I've been using the Spectral Cleaner that is included in Samplitude and Sequoia with pretty good results here... --Ben |

Yup.. takes a bit of work, but it certainly is possible. You may have to do 2 runs- one for the initial noise and one for the reverb tail. Really depends on the sound. I've taken door slams (you know, the ones where they fiddle around with the door in order to try to keep it quiet) out of recordings, though, with this tool. --Ben |

I don't consider people squeezing down Ravels bolero to 5 minutes (like J.F. did) to be in the top league of German musicians and pianists...
