Talking Songs that drunk people shouldn't sing

...but always do

At the top of my list, #1 with a bullet.

Werewolf's of London.

Nothing quite like hearing 300+ people sing the chorus on Halloween night at the beginning of the bands second set. It's something that I'll never forgot and I sure as hell wish I could.

1. Margarittaville - (the whole salt thing!)
2. Sweet Caroline- ( the yelling horn section!)
3. Get Down Tonight- with: (the roof is on fire..crap!)
4. Sweet Child Of Mine - (especially the ending vocal run!)
5. I Will Survive- (still...every drunk broads theme song!)

ANYthing from Hank, Jr.

...You don't have to call me 'darlin'.......'darlin.'

Funny story...sort of:
Unbelievably, not everyone has heard this song.
Just the other day I was in Subway getting lunch when some guys walked in while said song was playing on the radio.
These people are rocket sceintists for Lockheed (literally) and had been recently transplanted to Alabama from Colorado in the process.

I could tell they didn't know quite what to think about the words in the song.

I would imagine it would be funny to see THEM singing this song in a drunken stupor.

Or, how about Auld Lang Syne...you know, that song we always belt out at New Years celebrations?

Or, 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame' Ozzy-style?

AAGHH! Now you've done it... that memory I've been trying to bury just sat bolt upright in the coffin.

Playing at a dive down near skidrow many moons ago when this old wino starts yelling "Play 'Dust in the Wind'!"... apparently figured we didn't know it when we kept on playing, and helpfully started singing it for us. We could still hear him even after we cranked it...

"DUHHHSSSHHH inna WIIINNNNN!!!!"

Pretty much ruined the song for me...

ProFool is on it with the Pogues. Anything off "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash" is gonna make a bunch of drunk Irish transplants feel like they never left the homeland. "Sick Bed of Cuchulainn" was the song that saw a few small tables and wasted beers knocked over last time I was in an Irish bar.

Some of the lyrics:

They wouldn't give ya service
so ya smashed tha windows in
They threw you out into tha street
n' kicked you in tha brains
So ya walked back in tha revolving door
and did it all agaaiiiinn!

hey and what about Purple Rain - Prince
was a deejay for 10 years and purple rain was mostly used as an end of the party song.
still see all those drunk people shouting and singing along!
even when the music stopped they would keep on singin

Sting makes these songs that seem easy to sing, but when you give them a try (even not drunk) they are very hard on the ear.

That's interesting- I was in a women's clothes shop recently and they were playing a Prince greatest hits album. I noticed that a number of the women in the shop (obviously not together) were singing along to themselves. I had never seen such a sing-a-long impact.
There must be something about Prince songs and lyrics. It was fantastic spotting it.

No they weren't drinking, just the effect of great songwriting.

One of my "greatest hates of all" is when some would-be Diva sings "Greatest Love Of All".

Yet another classic shouldn't sing along but they always do song.

Eddie Murphy.

48 Hours.

'Nuff said.

I'm happy to report that in just over 5 years of doing FOH I've only encountered ONE band that had enough balls to play Freebird. At the end of the night they were told they couldn't come back to the club.

EVER.

For any reason.

Not even a drink.

The middle finger is my stock response for people that request Freebird while I'm playing. Feel free to use it and not give me credit.

Anyone got "I Will Survive" on their list?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Britney...

Purple Rain, how did I forget that one?

Can I add 'Candle In The Wind' by Elton John

And also one I heard last night from revellers coming out of a Monday night rock club:

'Come As You Are' by Nirvana.

The drunks are growing in number daily people, and the list of songs slaughtered is increasing tenfold. Something must be done... Anyone got a sniper rifle?

Where on the list would, 'Wind Beneath My Wings' come in? That song makes me cringe.

....or "How Dry I Am" as referenced on many Looney Toons cartoons? Those Looney Toons couldn't hold their liquor at all.
